PianoLeap is made by Omid Hojabri, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In short: PianoLeap does not collect your data. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends what you play or say to us or anyone else.
This page says what the app does with information on your device, so you can check for yourself.
What stays on your device
- Your progress and settings. Which lessons you have finished, the notes you know, your practice history, your chosen teacher voice and theme. These are stored on your device only.
- Pieces you import. Sheet music you add as MusicXML is stored on your device.
- Takes. If you choose to keep a recording of yourself playing a piece, the notes and pedal (and, if you were using the microphone, the sound) are saved on your device so you can hear them back. You can delete any take at any time, and PianoLeap keeps only the newest ones for each piece. Takes are not synced and never leave your device.
Your piano: MIDI
When you connect a digital piano by USB or Bluetooth, PianoLeap reads the notes you play and sends sound back to the piano. This happens only between your device and your piano. Bluetooth is used only for that connection.
The microphone
If you choose "Microphone" as the way you play, PianoLeap listens through the microphone to work out which notes you play and when. The sound is analysed on your device, as it arrives, and then discarded. It is never uploaded or shared. The only time the sound is kept is when you keep a take (above), and then it is saved on your device only. The microphone is off until you turn it on and allow it, and you can switch it off in Settings or in your device's privacy settings at any time.
PianoLeap does not use the camera, your location, your contacts, your photos or your advertising identifier.
iCloud
If you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud is available, PianoLeap can keep your progress and settings in sync between your own Mac, iPad and iPhone. This uses your private iCloud storage, which only you can access. We cannot see it, and nothing is stored on any server of ours. You can turn iCloud off for PianoLeap in your device's settings.
Purchases
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple, through the App Store. We never see your name, your payment details or your Apple ID. PianoLeap only learns from Apple whether you have unlocked the Full Course, so it can open the lessons and songs that go with it. Restore Purchases is in Settings, and Family Sharing follows Apple's rules.
No tracking, no third parties
PianoLeap contains no advertising, analytics or third-party tracking code and makes no network connections of its own to send data anywhere. We do not sell or share information about you, because we do not have any.
Children
PianoLeap is made for adults. Because it collects no personal data, there is nothing about a child to collect either.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address with a new date, and the change will be described in the app's release notes.
